Why I Wrote The Last of the Fire Lilies – The First Book in the A Lullaby in the Rain Series

I’ve always been a dreamer. As a child, I longed for more siblings to share my adventures. I imagined living in a world where I could be as small as an ant or just a little bigger. In my mind, ordinary grass towered like trees, and I created entire worlds in my parents’ front yard. I built tiny towns for my miniature people, crafting stories for their lives. Then, a Pentium III computer entered my world, and everything changed. Suddenly, my dreams could come to life on a screen. I animated fish tanks, played football with tiny characters, and watched my little towns become reality.
Yet, the dreamer in me never faded.
Years later, as a seafarer aboard a ship, I found myself with endless hours to gaze at the sea and the world beyond. Those moments reignited my love for fantasy and the unknown. It was there, surrounded by the vast ocean, that the first seeds of A Lullaby in the Rain were planted. The story came to me vividly, and I scribbled notes on scraps of paper with a 2B pencil. I lacked the technical skills to write a book, but I had a strong foundation from school. As a fan of English literature, I excelled in prose poetry, and stanzas, earning good grades in my GCEs. I knew I had a knack for storytelling.
When I felt ready to take on the challenge of writing a book, I left my engineering career behind and embraced a new path as an editor. Though I continued writing children’s poems, I eventually stopped editing other authors’ books to focus on my own stories. The Last of the Fire Lilies is the result of that journey.
Through this blog, I want to share what I’ve learned along the way. I invite you to join me in this new chapter of my life as a writer, as I strive to tell this story in the best way possible.
Thank you for being here.
